Program helps homeless and formerly incarcerated men get back on their feet | |
by Mr. G | |
(PIX11) – New Yorkers can be tough — but they also can be caring, especially to those who are in need. The Doe Fund provides homeless and formerly incarcerated men with a hand up. “Ready, Willing and Able” is a work training program that has been around for over 20 years. The Mansion Diner on the Upper East Side welcomes Doe Fund workers with open arms. “We don’t recognize it as helping out. When they come in, we recognize them as being human beings who work on hot days, rainy days, sometimes seven days a week. It’s what you do that matters,” said John Phillips, a third generation owner of the diner.
