The Doe Fund Selected as 2012 Small Business Award Finalist

Revenue Generating Business Model Gains Nod from New York Enterprise Report

For the past seven years, The New York Enterprise Report (NYER) has recognized the tri-state area's top small businesses for their accomplishments. This year, NYER has announced that The Doe Fund, a New York-based nonprofit which provides comprehensive job-training services to formerly homeless and incarcerated men, has been nominated as a finalist for the "Nonprofit of the Year" category.

“Nonprofit of the Year” finalists were chosen based on their unique approaches to serving those in need throughout the New York metropolitan area. Four nonprofits were selected as finalists out of dozens of applicants for each category and will be recognized at an awards ceremony in October.

“We are proud to recognize the achievements and accomplishments of The Doe Fund,” said Robert Levin, Editor-in-Chief and Publisher of The New York Enterprise Report. “The use of their unique revenue-generating businesses model has given them a distinct competitive advantage over their competitors, and we congratulate them for their initiatives and innovative thinking.”

“It is a privilege to have been nominated for this prestigious award,” said George McDonald, Founder and President of The Doe Fund. “We are honored that our programs, which give so many individuals the opportunity to re-establish their independence and re-commit to their families, are held in such high regard.”

The Best Practice and Best of the Year winners will be announced at the Small Business Awards Gala on Wednesday, October 10th from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the Metropolitan Pavilion in New York City.

About The Doe Fund

Headquartered in New York City, The Doe Fund is a $50 million, multi-disciplinary human services agency that helps 1,000 people every day to better their circumstances through programs providing paid work; workforce development and job placement; transitional, supportive, and permanent housing; drug testing and counseling; and comprehensive social and educational services. All once homeless or incarcerated, the “men in blue” of the organization's flagship program, Ready, Willing & Able, can be seen cleaning 150 miles of New York City streets every day. This paid transitional work is the first step they take toward self-sufficiency, and they complete Ready, Willing & Able with full-time, permanent employment, apartments of their own, and their sobriety.
