McDonald heard on SRO issue
George McDonald, a candidate for City Council President and an advocate for the homeless, caught the attention of both Mayor Ed Koch and Archbishop John Cardinal O'Connor Monday during a ceremony at which the Mayor signed a bill designed to preserve some low-cost housing by placing an 1l-month moratorium on the conversion, alteration or demolition of SRO housing.

McDonald said he was worried that developers would harass SRO tenants to get them out of the hotels so conversion could begin when the law expires next July. The law should have a provision preventing warehousing, McDonald said.
